Alice Belk

Alice Belk

Alice Lavern Belk, 92, of Mabelvale, Arkansas passed away October 24, 2021.  She was born in Little Rock on August 27, 1929 to Paul and Frances Mooser.  Mrs. Belk has spent all of her life in Little Rock, attending Wilson Elementary, West Side Junior High, and Central High.  She finished nursing school at Baptist State Hospital and was one of the youngest persons to have ever graduated from the school (enrolling at the age of 17!).  Immediately after graduating, Mrs. Belk went to work in the Operating Room at Arkansas Baptist Hospital, and later moved to a supervisory position where she remained until she quit to raise her children.

Mrs. Belk married Hollis L. Belk soon after graduating from nursing school.  They raised a son and daughter, Mark and Hollice (“Holly”).

When not at work, Mrs. Belk enjoys gardening, reading, watching TV, maintaining her lake front property, and best of all, spending time with her grandchildren.

Something you might be surprised to know is that Mrs. Belk has ties to Baptist since back before she was even born!  Her parents met at the Baptist Hospital in 1925 when her mother was a student nurse and her father was an electrician working on the new building.  Mrs. Belk and all of her brothers were born at Baptist, as were her own two children, and three of her grandchildren.

For over twenty-seven years, Mrs. Belk gave to Baptist Medical Center—her talents, her expertise, her loyalty, and her time.  Lots of time!   She has volunteered hundreds of hours through the years, with no compensation.  We probably didn’t appreciate all that she knew and did for everyone until now that she’s gone.

Mrs. Belk is preceded in death by her husband, Hollis L. Belk; parents, Paul J. Mooser and Frances (Mathews) Mooser; and brothers:  Paul Jean Mooser and Donald Lee Mooser.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughter, Holly Linck and husband Matt; son, Mark Belk and wife Dottie; brother, Alvin Mooser; and five grandchildren.

Graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, October 29 at Forrest Hills Cemetery in Alexander, Arkansas.
