Alfred Comiso Salazar, Jr.

Alfred “Fred” Comiso Salazar Jr, 81, was born on March 25, 1941, in Tondo, Manila Philippines to Alfredo A. Salazar Sr., a Chemical Engineer, and Aurora C. Salazar, housewife.  He died on November 29, 2022.   He was the eldest of four children.   He received his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Far Eastern University, Philippines.  He worked as an Electrical Engineer with the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers and installed power grids in the Mariana Islands. After moving to Arkansas, he was an engineer for Price Powell and a building inspector for the City of Little Rock until his retirement. Alfred was one of the founders of the Arkansas Philippine Association and was an executive board member for several years. 

 

He met the love of his life, Chita Reyes, and married on Dec 15, 1964.  They lived together in Okinawa, Japan, Agana, Guam and Little Rock, Arkansas.  They were married for 57 years until her death on March 29th, 2022.  Their zest for life and passion took them to traveling around the world and experienced many local cultures including volunteering in medical missions and peace flights with the Catholic Church.  He was a devoted father, grandfather, brother and uncle.  He garnered so many lifelong friends throughout his lifetime and never met a stranger. 

 

He is survived by his daughters, Mia Salazar (Lisa Hall) and Jean Longworth (Jeff); son, John Salazar (Lisa Barborek); his grandchildren, Trevor, Ian, Christian, Simon, Sophia, Isaac and Maggie; his siblings, Linda Garcia (Fernando), Eddie Salazar (Rosario) and Beatriz Basso; nieces and nephews, Cheryl (Tom), Michelle (Dennis), Stewart, Robert, Nolan, Bong, Marsha, Maureen and numerous great-nieces, great-nephews and Godchildren.

 

The Rosary will be Tuesday, December 13 at 6:00 p.m., at Smith Little Rock Funeral Home, followed by visitation until 9:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 14 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church followed by burial at Roselawn Memorial Park.
