Alex Steven Blackwood, 19, of Cabot, Arkansas, left this earth to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, October 17, 2008. He was born July 26, 1989 to Steven and Cindi Blackwood. Alex was a 2007 graduate of Cabot High School and a current student at the University of Central Arkansas. The NSBA World Champion, Alex Blackwood was an accomplished horseman who achieved national success while capturing the hearts of everyone around him with his natural ability and love for the sport. Among his multiple national and state championships, Alex was also named the 2007 AQHA National Hi-Point Honor Roll Champion. He was an avid outdoorsman who had a passion for hunting and fishing. Alex was a true cowboy deeply loved by and he who cherished the time he spent with his friends and family. As he prepares for his eternal ride, we know Alex will be celebrating all his rides in heaven. Surviving are his parents; one sister, Ariel Blackwood of Cabot; grandparents, Sylvia Blackwood of Ward and the late Frank Blackwood, Harold and June Stribling of Heber Springs; and very special aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Monday, October 20, at First Baptist Church in Cabot. Services will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, October 21, at First Baptist Church in Cabot followed by interment at Sylvania Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Fellowship Bible Church for the construction of a children's playground dedicated in Alex's memory.
