Alan Craig Welborn

Alan Craig Welborn, passed from this earthly home on November 28, 2022, at the age of 65. Born in Burlington, North Carolina, March 05,1957 to Woodrow Wilson Welborn and Jenna Sue Welborn, this bouncing baby boy was full of life and set for adventure.

Craig, as he was known to friends and family, is survived by the love of his life, Peggy Giles Welborn. They were married on June 25,1997. He is also survived by his brother, Mark Welborn (Carrie); a sister, Karen Tokarse (Bill); his favorite mother-in-law, Patricia Giles; his bonus son, Robert Green (Tina); his amazing grandchildren, Paula Quattlebaum (Kris), Brenna Spells and Ethan Green; his beautiful nieces, Jennifer Lowery, Jo Ann Patrick (Lee), Angela Giles and Alana Giles; his handsome nephew, Geremy Giles; his precious great granddaughter, Blakely Rey Quattlebaum; his brilliant great nieces, Piper Lowery, Scotlyn Patrick and his adventurous great nephew, Braeden Patrick.  

As with life sometimes, we have to say goodbye to family too soon. Craig had to say see you again to people he loved dearly, and their passing left a scar on his and his family’s lives. Craig was predeceased by his mother, his father and his brother, Steve Welborn and his brother-in-law, Alan Giles. Craig was also predeceased by family members that were too young to be gone, his nephew, Landon Giles, his grandson, Hayden Spells and his great nephew, Trenton Jones. These young men always were and always will be a light to their family. These young men all looked up to their Papa Craig for his stories and his adventurous spirit, which he instilled in all of them.

Craig has worn many hats over his lifetime. He served his country in the United States Air Force and was proud to do so, as he was a man who loved his country. After the Air Force, he began a new phase in his working life and became a welder, where he met the “Queen of the Universe” Peggy Giles.  He fell head over heels for her immediately. He joined the Boilermaker Union and alongside Peggy, they traveled the US together as welding partners and partners in life. Craig and Peggy both retired from the Boilermaker Union Local 69 and started out on new adventures.

Craig loved motorcycles, mainly his Harley Davidson's but he had a sweet spot for his Triumph.  He was ecstatic to show them to anyone that even mentioned the word motorcycle. The love for motorcycles was only matched by his love for the outdoors and camping. He would find any reason to set up the camper and enjoy all that nature had to offer. When he was not out having an adventure he could be found at home enjoying football (Razorback) or NASCAR on the TV or building model airplanes and setting up his telescopes. His love of space has been shared by him with all his family and picked up by a few of the younger generation. He would be happy to set up his telescope and show all who were visiting the wonders of space that he remarked was not nearly as beautiful as his queen's eyes. Craig also believed in giving back to the community he lives in by buying local and helping in many ways throughout Arkadelphia. He was a giver and would help anyone out that was willing to go forward and help themselves.

To those around the town that know Craig they know he is a master at telling jokes, even a few that had to be told in hushed tones but he was always happy to make someone laugh. If he could bring a smile to someone’s face, then he had a good day. His jokes could only be outdone by his stories about his life and adventures. He could keep people captivated for hours with stories of his time in the Air Force or about his younger years and the amazing things he had done and seen. Craig had a love of travel, and the destination was not important - it was the trip, and he always had his favorite travel partner with him everywhere he went. Craig and Peggy were always together and never got tired of being side by side. From trips to the beach with his family to trips to the Arlington with just Peggy he was ready to go and have a good time.

Craig was a man that loved beyond measure and gave selflessly to all. Craig had a zest for life that few will ever find. Craig was devoted to Peggy in every way humanly possible and they were never apart for more than a few moments in their 31 years together. He and Peggy were the couple you want to be like. You want to find your one great love story and they have it. You could hear their laughter as you would approach the door to their home where everyone was always welcome. The love they share has not boundary, no limits, no stopping point, they are forever connected by heart and soul. They shared a life that was exciting and beautiful and those memories will be passed on their grandchildren and great grandchildren in a hope that they too will find the kind of love that never leaves your heart.

Peggy would like to ask that any memorials be sent in Craig's name to the Arkansas food bank or Group Living Inc. The family has decided not to have a service at this time.
