Alan Burton Sisson, age 33, of Arkadelphia passed away on June 13, 2008 in Killeen, Texas as a result of a motor vehicular accident. He was born January 4, 1975 in Arkadelphia to his parents, Mac and Donna Shults Sisson.

Alan was a 1993 graduate of Arkadelphia High School, where he was a member of the Badger tennis team. He attended Ouachita Baptist University. Alan enlisted in the U.S. Army (Combat Engineers) in June, 2005 and graduated in October, 2005 from basic training in Fort Leonard Wood, MO. He was then assigned to the 36th Combat Engineer Brigade, 20th Combat Engineer Battalion, 510 Sapper Company at Fort Hood, Killeen, TX. Alan completed one tour of duty with his unit assigned to the First Cavalry Division in the Republic of Iraq (2006-2007). He was recently promoted to the rank of sergeant. As a career soldier, Alan, in his mind, already achieved a certain amount of heaven in being a member of the U. S. Army. He truly respected its history, ideals and its role in protecting the freedoms which all Americans enjoy. He respected and loved the enlisted men and officers in his unit. As a soldier, Alan was awarded the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Army Service Ribbon, and Overseas Service Medal.

Apart from his professional life, Alan enjoyed time with his family, and with his Arkadelphia friends fishing and hunting. He was an outdoor enthusiast loving golf, dogs, reading, and all water activities on the nearby Ouachita and Caddo Rivers.
Alan was a member of First Baptist Church of Arkadelphia.

Survivors include: his father and mother, Mac and Donna Sisson of Arkadelphia; and a sister, Stephanie Carol Sisson Green and husband, Jared, and son Jack of Prairie Grove; and a grandmother, Pauline McCone Sisson of Crossett. Other survivors are aunt Sherry McCord of Benton, uncle Bob McCord of Duncanville, TX. and cousin Jason (Teresa) McCord of Richardson, TX.; uncle and aunt Chuck and Vicky Morgan of Monticello and cousins Jim Morgan (Cara) of Orlando, FL. and Ryan (Misty) Morgan of Monticello; uncle and aunt Jim and Sue Shults of Benton and cousins Jarrod and Joy Shults of Benton; and uncle and aunt Rev. Lowell and Peggy Snow of Prairie Grove and cousins Meredith (Keith) Purifoy of Fayetteville and Matt Snow of Branson, MO. Also surviving Alan was his number one dog companion, Shelby.

Alan was predeceased by grandparents J.M. "Jimmy" and Vicky Shults of Pine Bluff and Zeph B. Sisson of Crossett, cousin, John McCord of Duncanville, TX and dog pal, J. J.

The family would like to extend its sincere appreciation to elements of the Killeen, Texas fire and police departments and associated paramedics for their professional assistance at the site of the accident. Special thanks go for the kind and caring assistance provided to the family by U.S. Army Casualty Notification and Assistance officers Major Mark Dusharm, Captain Martin Patterson and Captain Jeremy Miller.
Pallbearers are members of the U.S. Army Honor Guard attached to Fort Sill in Lawton, OK.
Honorary pallbearers are: Reuben Davis, Lance Garner, Charles Kochel and Dustin Stockton along with officers and soldiers of the 36th Combat Engineer Brigade, 20th Combat Engineer Battalion, 510 Sapper Company at Fort Hood in Killeen, TX.

Funeral services celebrating Alan's life will be conducted at 9:00 AM Wednesday, June 25, 2008 in the chapel of Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home, 517 Clay St. Arkadelphia, 870-246-4551 with Rev. Steve Patterson officiating. Interment will be at 1:00 PM Wednesday at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery, 1501 West Maryland Avenue in North Little Rock. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 24 from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alan B. Sisson Memorial Scholarship to benefit students enrolled in the U.S. Army Reserve Officers' Training Corp combined program at Ouachita Baptist University and Henderson State University, at OBU, P.O. Box 3754, Arkadelphia, AR 71998-0001 ( www.obu.edu ).
