Ala Plummer

Ala Mae Harrison Plummer, 91, died on March 26, 2013, in Little Rock, after a long illness. She was born on January 1, 1922, and grew up on a family farm in Antioch, the second oldest of four sisters and a brother.

A graduate of Opal High School, Ala Mae enjoyed basketball, singing hymns, playing cards, and assembling jigsaw puzzles. Upon her retirement after 35 years with Winburn Tile Manufacturing in Little Rock, she bought a bass boat and spent years fishing for bream and tournament-winning bass and crappie on Lake Ouachita. Her family appreciated that her successes on the lake would be quickly followed by large fish fries.

Ala Mae's backyard garden produced beans, okra, peppers and tomatoes for canning and sharing with family and friends. She had a talent for sewing and for remembering and reciting jokes. She was known affectionately as Granny and Mamaw to her grandchildren, and as a caring friend by her Sunday School class at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, father Hubert Harrison, mother Sybil Nipper Harrison, and stepmother, Anna Lou Harrison. Also preceding her in death were her husband, Aubrey (Jim) Plummer; two sisters, Ima Erwin and Martha Pruitt; her brother Elwin Harrison; and a grandson, Rennie Plummer. She is survived by her sister, Alta Stamps of Conway; a son, Darrell Plummer of Little Rock; two daughters, Glenda Brazzel of Little Rock and Diana Evans of Cabot; four grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 30, 2013, at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, 5300 Stagecoach Rd., Little Rock, AR 72204, with funeral to follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday in Oak Grove Cemetery in Lonoke County.
