Agnes Renner

Agnes Sarna Renner of Morrow, Georgia passed away September 26, 2020 following a brief illness.  She was born October 21, 1926 in North Little Rock, Arkansas to the late Frank Sarna and Annie Niedwiedz Sarna.  She attended Blue Hill Elementary School and graduated from North Little Rock High School in 1944.

Agnes completed her nursing training and graduated from St. Vincent Infirmary nursing school in Little Rock, Arkansas in June of 1947. She served in the US Cadet Nursing Corps, a World War II program designed to provide nursing services to the US military forces, serving as a Cadet at the VA Hospital in Fayetteville, Arkansas from September of 1947 until joining the Navy in August of 1949.  She served until June of 1954 when she was honorably discharged from the Navy as a Lieutenant (junior grade).

While in the Navy she was stationed at USNH Camp Pendleton, California, USNH Yokosuka, Japan and NAS Sangley Point in the Philippines. She earned the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Medal and the National Service Defense Medal.

She married Richard D. “Dick” Renner May 1, 1954.  They lived in Kansas and California until Dick left the Navy and began working for the Federal Aviation Administration in Atlanta, Georgia. Agnes worked as a nurse at several Atlanta hospitals before retiring,

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard “Dick” Renner; and her brother, Sylvester Sarna.

Survivors include her 11 children: Richard “Dennis” Renner (Laura) of Nevada; Ann Renner Libman (Mark) of North Carolina; Thomas Renner (Elizabeth “Bunny”) of Georgia; Zachary Renner of Texas; James Renner (Pamela) of Georgia; Jay Renner (P.A. Magee) of Maryland; Gregory Renner of Florida; Charles “Chuck” Renner (Teri Nunez) of Florida; Patti Renner Sandoval (Jack) of California; Vicki Corley (Ray) of Georgia; and Kris Renner of Georgia; a sister, Florence Jenders of Little Rock; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and extended family members.

The family wishes to extend their deep appreciation to Somerby of Peachtree City for the care and companionship they have provided to their mother over the past five years.

Visitation will be 10:00 AM, Tuesday, October 6, 2020 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church . Rosary will begin at 10:30 AM followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM. Interment will be at Immaculate Heart of Mary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Navy Nurse Corps Association , PO Box 908, Vonore, TN  37885.
