S. Dean Douglas, II

S. Dean Douglas II, 50, of Jacksonville, Arkansas, departed from us on November 26, 2021 at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences from an accident while in the line of duty. Born on May 27, 1971 in Hampton, Virginia, Dean grew up as a military brat, having lived in various places across the country. In 1989, Dean joined the Navy and later served in Operation Desert Storm. He would eventually call Arkansas his “home”, where he continued his service as a Paramedic with MEMS and a volunteer with the Gravel Ridge Fire Department where he held the rank as Captain.

Dean met his wife, Brandy Cormier, on a first responder mission for Hurricane Katrina in 2005. And because of that hurricane, Dean and Brandy have been inseparable ever since. They were married on August 2, 2008 and raised their 3 children together. Dean loved comic books so much that after their home was completely overtaken with comics, and with persuasion from his family and best friends Tim and Amanda Crow, he opened his very own comic bookstore: D2 Comics and More in Jacksonville.

Dean will be remembered as always being very busy, never still. He had a particular passion for assisting schools, children’s groups, and EMT students, especially when it came to chartering, fundraising, and most importantly making sure everyone had food to eat. Dean loved taking cruises with his family when he slowed down enough to take his vacation.

Dean’s gift of friendship and protection to our state has not subsided. We are proud to share that Dean was an organ and tissue donor for ARORA, where he has now given a 2nd chance at life for 8 organ recipients and countless others who will be recipients of his bone and tissue donation. Major Dean Douglas II, 28-year veteran of MEMS, has saved those final lives.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 13 years, Brandy Douglas; 3 children, Bralee (Lindsey), Kameron, and Mattie; his parents, Dean and Ernestine Douglas; sister-in-law, Melissa Cormier; a special nephew, James; his nieces and a host of extended family. Also feeling the tremendous loss of their co-worker, partner, and friend are his First Responder Family at MEMS, the Gravel Ridge Fire Department, and countless friends in the medical community whom he worked with daily all over the state. He will be missed tremendously.

Visitation will be from 5:00pm-7:00pm Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at Smith North Little Rock Funeral Home. Services will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at First NLR Assembly of God at 11:00am, 4501 Burrow Dr. North Little Rock, AR 72116.

These toys will be loaded into the ambulance after the services and taken directly to the Toys for Tots toy drive, a mission very special to Dean. You can also make a donation in his name at: https://www.toysfortots.org.
