Mary Wankum

Mary Johanna Bechtold Wankum died September 4, 2021.

Mary was born on December 29, 1947. She married David Wankum on January 21, 1967. They had four children Angela Duncan (King Chambers), Jeff Wankum (Natalie), Mark Wankum (Sarah). Mary had 10 grandchildren; Stephanie, Taylor, Zoe, Sophia, Lorelei, Benjamin, AnnMarie, Lucy, Becket, and Joseph; 1 great-grandchild, Ryker Myers, and a host of others she loved and claimed as if they were her own. She was preceded in death by her son, Keith Wankum; brother John David Bechtold; and her parents.

Mary worked at UAMS in the neonatal intensive care unit for 35 plus years, where she was respected and loved by fellow nurses and doctors. She had an associate degree in nursing from UALR.

Mom enjoyed being outdoors and reading. She was devoted to her family, enjoyed crocheting, and enjoyed spending time with her grandkids.

Visitation will be on Friday, September 10th from 5-7pm at Smith North Little Rock Funeral Home with a Rosary to follow. Funeral mass will be Saturday, September 11th at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in North Little Rock at 11am.
