Loys Smith

Loys V. “Smitty” Smith, 89, of Sheridan passed away Friday, October 15, 2021. He was born December 5, 1931, in Cato, Arkansas to the late Elijah Oscar and Eliza “Ela” Beasley Smith. He was a member and served as a Deacon of Immanuel Baptist Church in Sheridan.  He was a retired Master Sergeant with the United States Air Force during the Korean and Vietnam Wars.  Smitty later worked for the Union Pacific Railroad, Action Realty and was former operator of Ico One Stop.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Pauline (Shellnut) Smith; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Elroy Brown, Penny and Bob Tannehill; son and daughter-in-law, Clay and Audrey Smith; five grandchildren, Kevin Murphy, Chad Hinkle, Adam Smith, Heather Martone and Holly Bryant; and twelve great-grandchildren, all of Sheridan.  He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, one sister and one grandson, Tony Murphy.

The family would like to express special thanks to the staff of Crown Point Assisted Living, Kindred Hospice and his three caregivers for their exceptional care and love.

Visitation is 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Monday, October 18, 2021 at Immanuel Baptist Church, Sheridan. Funeral is 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at the church with Rev. Gary Copeland officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Bethel North Cemetery, Sheridan.  Pallbearers include  Kevin Murphy, Adam Smith, Alex Bryant, Corey Martone, Preston Martone and Clayton Smith.  Honorary Pallbearers are Elroy Brown, Bob Tannehill, Chad Hinkle and Beau Bryant.
