John M. Miller, Sr. went home to the Lord on August 3, 2021, surrounded by his family. He was born on July 2, 1941, in Little Rock, Arkansas to Martin and Marie Ermann Miller. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Elizabeth “Betty” Nosal Miller; children Debbie Mayes, John (Jan) Miller Jr., Theresa (P.T.) Murtha, Cindy (Steve) Spears; grandchildren Katelyn Murtha, Justin (Emily) Murtha, Hayden Mayes, Madysen Mayes, Andrew Miller, Keli Spears; siblings Romana (Dwight) Jones, Charles (Mary) Miller. He is preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law Kevin Mayes; siblings Louise Butler, Martin Miller, Raymond Miller.
He served two years in the U.S. Navy and then continued his service in the Naval Reserve. He worked as a plumber for 30+ years achieving master plumber certification, having plumbed many buildings in Little Rock, he retired in 2003.
He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary (IHM) Catholic Church, IHM Men’s Club, IHM Rosary Sodality, UA Local 155 Plumbers and Pipefitters Union, and Tillman Hunting Club. He could often be found sitting on the front porch in the evening with Betty or at the kitchen table, in his chair by the window, having a drink with friends.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, grilling and, for special occasions, smoking ribs, and brisket. His television was tuned to Westerns, but only when the Razorbacks were not playing. If you blocked his line of sight to the TV, he would say “you are in a no parking zone” or “you aren’t made of glass”. You could often find him listening to old country music on the radio. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren laughing and aggravating them.
He was a practical man who always wore a blue pocket shirt and blue jeans. In his memory, please feel free to wear something blue to the visitation or funeral.
The family thanks the staff at Conway Regional ICU for the special care they took during John’s stay there.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church , Arkansas Hospice , or a charity of your choice.
