Hugh Humphreys Bosworth, Jr., 70, of Cabot passed away April 26 at Baptist Health Medical Center in North Little Rock. He was born January 14, 1949 in Memphis, Tennessee to the late H.H. Bosworth, a Marine Corps veteran who served in the Pacific Theater during the Second World War, and Eleanor Erwin (Hussey) Bosworth. Hugh spent the majority of his career, 37 years, as the branch manager of a commercial HVAC supplier in Little Rock. Though he loved his job and built lifelong friendships with his co-workers, it was the opportunities that he had in his personal life that brought him the most joy.
Hugh helped to launch the Westside Little Rock YMCA’s soccer program in the mid-1970s and coached hundreds of youth in a sport that was beginning to gain popularity. His teams routinely won their division and he coached an under 19 team to a state title. For a brief time, he was the coach of an under 12 girl’s team that included a former First Daughter. He would go on to be the volunteer coach for the Cabot School District, helping to launch their soccer program.
He was an avid student of history having spent several years working with his father in a bookstore that they owned in Memphis in the Sixties that specialized in history and catered to the growing gaming community that formed around military strategy board games. This interest stayed with him throughout his life and he amassed a library of thousands of volumes, many of which were out of print or focused on more obscure areas of military history. He could tell you more about the tactics of the Greeks, Romans, and Zulu than just about anyone in the central Arkansas area.
Hugh graduated from the Memphis University School in 1967 and attended the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) for several years before embarking on his professional career.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Barbara (Houston) and his second wife Sherrie (Snapp Dozier) to whom he was married for 36 years, and his sister, Fontaine Carlos. He is survived by a large, close, and loving family: his wife Linda (Olsen); his brother, Millard Bosworth, and his children, Brandon Bosworth, Matt Dozier, Chris Dozier, Priscilla Needham, Eleanor Upton, and Elizabeth Perrone; his fourteen grandchildren (and one on the way!), Megan and Lauren Dozier; David, Kaitlyn, Nathan, and Joshua Dozier; Benjamin, Ruth, and Harrison Upton; Luke, Chase, Jonathan, Nash, and Addie Perrone; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church in Cabot at 2 pm Friday, May 3.
The family is ever grateful for the outpouring of support and love. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions can be made to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Arkansas at bit.ly/BBBSCArk or mailed to 312 W Pershing Blvd, North Little Rock, AR 72114 or the EAST Initiative at bit.ly/DonateEAST or mailed to 6215 Ranch Dr., Little Rock, AR 72223.
