Corene Mitchell

Corene Marie Morden Mitchell, age 94, Sherwood, AR, went to be with her Lord and Savior on November 5, 2021.

She was born in the Olmstead Community near Jacksonville, AR, on December 13, 1926 to the late Horace Morden and Venie Clement Morden.  In addition to her parents, she was proceeded in death by her husband Charles Mitchell, and siblings Leonard Morden, Opal Holt, Adene Gwin and Lena Grimmett.

She is survived by her son Chuck (Debbie) Mitchell and two grandsons who she absolutely adored, Kyle (Anna) Mitchell and Chris Mitchell, all of Scott, AR.  She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Corene enjoyed 42 years of employment with the Arkansas Employment Security Division.  She was a longtime member of the Sylvan Hills United Methodist Church, a member of Delta Theta Tau Sorority, the General Federation of Women’s Clubs and many other clubs where she volunteered her services.  Her proudest activity was the dictionary project which provided personal dictionaries to each 3rd grade student in the state.

She was passionate about keeping the family together and ensuring all had fun.  She loved decorating her home for all the seasons, especially Christmas.  And was the best at gag gifts, crazy cakes, and laughter.  She often said this life is a lot of fun if you are willing to laugh and have fun.

Corene was very passionate about honoring our country’s veterans and the freedom we enjoy because of their service.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at 11am at Sylvan Hills United Methodist Church, 9921 AR Hwy 107, Sherwood, AR 72120.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.  Interment will be private.

Pallbearers are John Sanders, Kirk Van Pelt, Tim Epperson, Michael Gerety, Michael Shofner and Arthur McDaniel.
